Our Origins

Vintage Artisan began with a fascination for the huarache—an ancestral form of woven leather footwear shaped by patience, discipline, and handwork.

In a world where much can be replicated, we stand by what cannot—objects formed slowly by human hands, guided by time, intention, and tradition.

Founded by Carlos Roberto, Vintage Artisan was born from a desire to elevate a humble object through design and craftsmanship. While studying fashion and developing a deep admiration for the discipline of Italian luxury houses, Carlos became drawn to the idea that even the most familiar objects could be refined through thoughtful design and careful construction.

During this search, he discovered the huarache.

What many saw as a simple woven shoe revealed something far greater—a craft rooted in generations of knowledge, yet rarely presented within the world of refined footwear. For Carlos, the huarache represented both heritage and opportunity: a tradition strong enough to preserve, yet open enough to evolve.

The journey led to Michoacán, Mexico, where generational artisans have practiced this form of shoemaking for centuries. Their knowledge is passed down not through factories, but through families and communities.

Vintage Artisan was founded in collaboration with these artisans, working together to preserve traditional weaving techniques while elevating them through modern silhouettes, premium materials, and thoughtful design.

Every pair of footwear is produced entirely by hand using natural materials sourced from world-class leather tanneries. No synthetics. No shortcuts. Only leather, rubber, and human hands guiding each step—from cutting and weaving to shaping and finishing.

The process remains intentionally slow. Each pair is made to order and can take weeks to complete, reflecting a belief that true craftsmanship cannot be rushed.

Over time, Vintage Artisan became known for advancing the huarache beyond its traditional form while preserving its integrity—introducing suede woven styles, developing stacked soles, and refining silhouettes that bridge heritage craft with modern elegance.

The brand has been recognized internationally, appearing in publications such as Esquire and Vogue, and showcased on global stages including Sole DXB and Vogue Italia’s Who’s Next.

While the huarache remains the foundation of the house, Vintage Artisan represents a broader philosophy inspired by warm climates, countryside elegance, and the cultural richness of Latin heritage.

What began with woven footwear has evolved into a wider vision—the art of resort living: a way of dressing and living shaped by craftsmanship, leisure, and timeless design.
